Work-Based Learning

Our mission is to cultivate a Career & Technical Education environment where post-secondary and industry partnerships provide relevant learning opportunities for high school students and the Douglas County community in order to ensure a competitive advantage and workforce readiness. Most of our students are already acquiring college credit & industry certifications. Work-based learning partnerships place skilled students in our community to apply their skills and knowledge with on-the-job training through internships, apprenticeships, and credit-for-work opportunities. The goal is to equip our students with the skills they need in the workforce, and then place them in industry to apply those skills.

Students complete as few as 30 hours working with industry professionals and mentors in entry-level positions and/or job shadows. Hours are flexible and agreed upon based on employers’ hours and student availability. Many are at an employer’s site, some are projects done on our campus, and others can be industry-sponsored projects. Industry experts work with our pathway developers to make a plan that places students in anything from real to simulated situations in the field. We have a whole generation of the next workforce ready to apply their learning and critical thinking to your needs.

Please contact our directors or pathway experts right away if you are interested in working with the next wave of employees in these fields! We try to secure placements roughly one semester in advance.

What Does Work-Based Learning (WBL) Look Like?

Legacy Campus is one of the most impactful times in my high school career. Addison Fitch

Legacy Campus makes classes available that directly correlate to your passions to help you get closer to your goals in the workforce or after high school plans. Paige Frampton

How Does WBL Support Our Community?

Work-Based Learning can give employers a strategic advantage by developing a skilled, loyal, and motivated workforce. This approach has enhanced productivity, reduced costs, while building a strong talent pipeline, fostering innovation and maintaining a competitive edge. It also supports Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, promoting positive community impact, inclusive growth, and sustainable development goals. And most importantly, it makes a real difference in students’ lives, in real time. Work-Based Learning is not a “One Size Fits All” program, It is closer to a “One Size Fits One”. There are several different models of WBL, and each one offers something different. Each student has a different schedule, different needs, and different interests.
