Aviation/Transportation
The Aviation Pathway at the DCSD Legacy Campus provides high school students with an exceptional opportunity to explore and prepare for careers in the aviation industry while earning college credit through Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU). Through dual enrollment, students take authentic college-level courses such as Aviation Fundamentals, Aviation Weather, Intro to Flight Simulation I, and Advanced Flight Simulation, all designed to align with MSU Denver’s Professional Flight Officer concentration.
Students gain hands-on experience in Cessna 172 Garmin G1000 flight simulators, which replicate industry-standard avionics and flight environments. This simulation-based training allows students to apply classroom knowledge in real-world scenarios, developing essential aviation competencies such as navigation, communication, and flight planning.
Beyond the classroom, students have opportunities to pursue independent flight training through community and industry partners such as Aspen Flying Club at Centennial Airport, where many students begin working toward their private pilot certification. The program also incorporates work-based learning experiences, guest speakers, and professional mentorship from aviation and aerospace experts, giving students valuable insight into the wide range of careers that support modern aviation — including air traffic control, airport operations, aerospace engineering, and aviation management.
Special events such as Discovery Flight Day further connect students to the field by allowing them to experience flight firsthand and engage directly with pilots, flight instructors, and airport personnel at the Colorado Air and Space Port.
The DCSD Legacy Campus Aviation Pathway is designed to give students a competitive advantage as they enter postsecondary aviation programs or transition directly into flight training and aviation-related careers. Through rigorous academics, professional simulation, and real-world exposure, students graduate with the skills, confidence, and network to take their aviation ambitions to new heights.
Applications must be completed by the student; submissions from parents or guardians will not be accepted.
Applications will remain open through February 27, 2026.
The application process is NOT first-come, first-served, so students are encouraged to take their time and complete all sections thoughtfully.
