Future Educator

Through a partnership with University of Colorado Denver School of Education & Human Development, we are proud to offer a dual enrollment pathway for high school students interested in pursuing careers in education.  This program provides courses that may transfer into degree programs in elementary, secondary, or special education (transferability may vary by institution).

Future Educator students will gain hands-on experience through a field placement at a DCSD elementary or middle school, while also earning relevant industry certifications and up to 21 college credits through CU Denver.

Recommended Learning Sequence & Course Descriptions

The Future Educator courses may be taken through this sequence over two years, or students can opt into a single course (however, Children’s Literature and Field Experience must be taken concurrently). The courses in this pathway do not have prerequisites.

Future Educator Career Options Include: Elementary Classroom Teacher, School Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Early Childhood Education, Secondary Classroom Teacher, Speech-Language Pathologist, Paraeducator, Educational Assistant, Special Education Teacher, School Counselor and much more.
