Happy New Year! We hope you had a wonderful couple of weeks away and enjoyed time with friends and family.
As we reflect on the new year, we find ourselves thinking about the many, many things that have been new this past fall -- a new campus, new classes, new teachers, new students, new systems...the list goes on and on. We often refer to this first group of students as our 'leap of faith' students who embarked on this journey with us. The same can be said for our staff and our community as they have supported us through this process. And for all these blessings, we want to say thank you!
We would also like to share with you one of our student's reflections from this past fall. Although this is one student's account, we have heard many similar stories from our students about how the DCSD Legacy Campus pathways has opened their eyes to new possibilities:
"Coming into this class I was unsure that I was going to like it or not. I had my doubts that it was going to be too hard for me, and at the time I was super nervous about starting my road to becoming a pilot. But my expectations have changed a lot. Between playing on the sim, doing test flights here and there, talking with classmates, and enjoying not only what I am learning but also being able to connect with other people on something that I wouldn't talk about normally [...] This class has not only taught me what it feels like to be a real pilot, but how fun it can be and how fun learning about it is. Some of my friends don't know what they even want to do after high school, but I am thankful that I can say that I do know what I want to do for the rest of my life. All thanks to this class. There is a lot that I can say about this class but I do not think I can truly put into words how this class has impacted my life. If you had asked me what I wanted to do with my life about a year ago, I would not have known what to say. But since this Legacy Campus opened up, I have taken the opportunity in front of me and decided to devote my life to being a pilot. Which might have been the best choice of my life. Because without legacy, being a pilot might have been the last thing I was going to be when I grew up."
Again, thank you to our students, their parents, other school counselors, the Douglas County School District, and all community supporters for helping us make this dream a reality. We are already beginning new classes this second semester (classes resume January 9th), and applications for next year are already open (you can read more about this below). The website has been updated with new resources and videos for your perusal, and we have several tour dates available in the coming months if you want to stop by and check it out.
